More than 300 people, including five-year-olds with signs of mistreatment, have been rescued from what will be an Islamic school in northern Nigeria.
Lash marks, foot chains and worn out clothes. A scenario of terror, says Reuters. Most of the fugitives in the city of Kaduna were children, no more than ten years old.
One of the young men, who was accompanied by a policeman, had visible marks on his back that appeared to have been caused by whiplash.
The victims were brought to that location from countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali or Ghana. Others, officials say, were left at that school by parents who believed it was an Islamic school or rehabilitation center.
"This place is not a rehab or Islamic school, as you can see, said Ali Janga of the Kaduna police." The children here were used and dehumanized, "he said.
Police spokesman Yakubu Sabo confirmed that seven people, who identified themselves as teachers, were arrested on Thursday. The state government is currently providing food to children, "including five-year-olds." So far it is not known how long they were stuck in that place.
