Drug traffickers in Mexico have drilled holes in some areas of the wall on the US border where people and narcotics can pass, the Washington Post said yesterday.
The newspaper, which cites US law enforcement sources, says smugglers have drilled holes with a type of saw that sells in hardware stores for less than $ 100.
According to the sources, with this saw the traffickers can open a hole in the wall where an adult fits in a few minutes.
The holes are being drilled in areas where electronic sensors have not yet been installed, which would easily detect the vibrations caused by the saws.
Another technique that is used to pass the wall is using stairs, similar to what happens in the border area of San Diego, California.
So far, the US authorities have not confirmed the existence of holes made with saws.
But US border officials and former workers admitted that they exist.
Building a wall on the Mexican border was one of US President Donald Trump's main election promises in the 2016 elections.
Trump justifies building the wall with the need to stop immigrants at the border and stop drug traffickers and smugglers.
