Although the condition usually causes no symptoms, it can increase a person's risk of serious complications such as heart attack and stroke, so doing what is possible to control blood pressure is very important.
High blood pressure can often be prevented or reduced by some simple lifestyle changes, such as eating healthy, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, drinking alcohol in moderation, and not smoking.
When it comes to eating a healthy diet, the NHS recommends reducing the amount of salt in your food and eating lots of fruits and vegetables.

But some experts believe that adding supplements can also help lower blood pressure.

Human studies found that garlic supplements have a significant impact on lowering blood pressure in people with high blood pressure.
On a study600-1,500 mg of aged garlic extract was as effective as Atenolol in reducing blood pressure over a 24-week period.
Several studies have linked dairy product consumption with lowering blood pressure, and this has been attributed to a family of bioactive dairy peptides called angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors).

What causes high blood pressure?
