A 15-year-old who has been missing since 2017 in Germany was found last Friday hiding in a closet in an apartment belonging to a suspect distributing child pornography.
The result of the operation, which some German press called a "Christmas miracle", was fortuitous: Police raided the house in an investigation to combat child pornography, thinking they would find only data storage devices, and eventually bump into the smallest, missing two and a half years ago, and dressed in the same clothes he was wearing at the time.
It happened in the town of Recklinghausen in western Germany, just five miles from where the smaller one was last seen. "Police officers found a boy in a closet. The investigation revealed that he was a 15-year-old who had been missing for a long time," local police said in a statement.
A native of Duisburg, Marvin moved to a foster home in the town of Oer-Erkenschwick after his father's death. On the morning of June 11, 2017, when he was 13, he went out to meet friends and was never seen again. The last sign of life he gave was a message sent by WhatsApp at 11.37 am. After that, the phone turned off and didn't turn on again, reports "The Münchner Merkur".
He was found two and a half years later when, early Friday morning, a police team accompanied by dog trackers broke into the home of 44-year-old Lars H., suspected of distributing child pornography. Inside the man's apartment, investigators found trash bags full of used diapers – the smell of urine was so intense that agents had to wear masks to search. And inside a closet, they saw Marvin K., who was taken to the hospital with no apparent injuries, and is now under police protection.
He held me tightly and began to tremble.
According to the authorities, quoted by the German newspaper, no evidence has yet been gathered that the 15-year-old had been kept at home against his will.
Marvin has already met her mother – with whom she could only be for ten minutes and who revealed that she was "locked for two and a half years" and "unable to breathe fresh air". She held me tightly and began to tremble. She said, 'Mother, take me home. I was wearing the same clothes I was wearing the day she disappeared. We both cried. quit, "he told the British" Daily Mail. "
Following the search, Lars H was arrested, as was his 77-year-old father. Present in court on Saturday, the judge decided to hold the main suspect in prison and release the other.
