"Traditionally, people use natural remedies, including herbal teas, to relieve swelling," said nutritionist Marsha McCulloch.
She wrote on Healthline: "Peppermint is widely recognized for helping to relieve digestive problems. It has a fresh and refreshing taste.
"Animal studies also show that peppermint relaxes the intestines, which can relieve intestinal spasms – as well as the swelling and pain that can accompany them.
"Mint tea has not been tested to swell. However, one study found that a single tea bag provided six times more mint oil than a serving of mint leaf capsules. Therefore, mint tea can be quite powerful".
