For photos of the seemingly mundane – they are not so bad.
Nearly 450,000 snappers entered the prestigious Cewe Photography Award contest, which shows brilliant snapshots of everyday life from around the world – and those are the 11 that won awards.
According to Cewe, a photo book and online retailer, it is the world's largest open photo competition.
Passionate amateurs faced professionals in 10 categories: people, animals, nature, architecture and infrastructure, landscapes, humor, sport, food, travel and culture, and hobby and leisure.
The winners show a wide range of subjects, from a mischievous squirrel and a gravity-defying dancer to an old Turkish woman carrying bread.
