The delicious dishes of Taberna Ruel

by Ace Damon

Located on Santa Maria Street, in Funchal's Old Town, Taberna Ruel is a typical Madeiran space that bets heavily on regional cuisine. We are keen to bring fantastic dishes made from the freshest, most tasty and carefully chosen ingredients to your table. We focus our attention on the rich Madeiran gastronomy and our dishes have been the delight of all who visit us.

In our menu, there are dishes that are distinguished as are the case of swordfish with banana or passion fruit sauce, the bay of kebab and our famous cake of cocoa. For dessert lovers, our delicious passion fruit cassata is top of the line, as is the house-made chocolate mousse and cheesecake.

With a welcoming atmosphere in which every customer has a special attention, our Taberna Ruel also bets on the improvement of dishes with Madeiran products. Thus, customers have several options for a meal that arouses all senses. We suggest our sword carpaccio, the fish soup, the fish and shellfish mix, our seafood rice and, for meat lovers, we include in our menu the grilled T-Bone, the fillet steak with Green pepper sauce. If you like to check every step of making a good barbecue, we invite you to visit our barbecue area, situated in the courtyard of our restaurant. Here you can follow all the technique and care with which we make your request.

We also have a huge variety of fresh and high quality seafood: regional chips, lobster, lobster, clams, razors and crab. We take pride in explaining to each customer that the fish we serve is caught in the Region and is bought every morning by our owner, Mr. Ruel.

And because an excellent meal always needs a great wine, also know that Taberna Ruel has a well-equipped wine cellar!
