Last Tuesday (03), YouTube announced on Twitter that a new YouTube Rewind is coming. The annual video series, which won the most hated video title in history in the 2018 edition, is set to follow a different path this year – but evidence points to the opposite.
Many will remember the phenomenon that was the YouTube Rewind of 2018. The video brought a number of references to the game Fortnite and the Ninja streamer, which, although successful internationally, were not the highlights of YouTube, but of streaming platforms.
Inappropriate choices, which also excluded large channels such as PewDiePie, controversial Logan Paul and other celebrities that captured the platform's audience, led to community rejection, resulting in nearly 17 million dislikes.

The public even accused the platform of using the annual celebration as a form of publicity in an attempt to get closer to Fortnite and those celebrities.
So to announce that YouTube Rewind 2019 is coming – and that will be different – the platform posted a Twitter meme with the hashtag “#RewindIsComing”. Ironically, the format chosen is well dated and may indicate that the platform is not aware of current trends.
And you, what do you expect from YouTube Rewind 2019? Do you think the platform is closer to the community?
